Our multi-discipline approach offers a comprehensive program for healing and rehabilitation. Our Dedham orthopedist offers stem cell, platelet-rich plasma and ultrasound-guided injections in our office, eliminating any inconvenience to patients of having to go elsewhere. Stem cell injection therapy can play an important role in orthopedic regenerative medicine. Stem cells are harvested from either the patient, through bone marrow, or a young donor source. These injections are used to treat orthopedic sports injuries and degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis and rotator cuff disease. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections use concentrated platelets of a patient’s own blood to enhance the healing process. They are used to treat chronic degenerative conditions of bone, tendon and cartilage, and acute sports injuries. Ultrasound-guided injections use the ultrasound to accurately guide the needle directly to the affected area. This technique is used for cortisone, hyaluronic acid, stem cell, and PRP injections.

We provide expert muscle and skeletal therapy from a licensed acupuncturist in our Waltham office. We specialize in Chinese massage therapy to treat post-op pain management, frozen shoulder, scar tissue mobilization, muscle strain, muscle imbalance, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve entrapment, plantar fasciitis, and back and neck pain. Needles, cupping therapy and cold laser therapy are used in treatment. Our high standards and innovative orthopedic services make BSSC the only place to come if you are looking for a Dedham orthopedist. We have multiple locations in the Boston area for your convenience. We live in a technology-driven society where our electronic devices have replaced face-to-face communication. Although medicine has benefitted from many of these advances, nothing can replace the human touch to comfort, heal, and impart our feelings. It takes a special medical office to recognize the value of ancient healing rituals. At the Boston Sports & Shoulder Center, 02451 acupuncture is used to supplement BSSC’s medical care and provide expert musculoskeletal therapy support. At our Waltham office, our traditional, time-tested therapies include Chinese massage therapy, acupuncture, cupping and cold laser therapy. They are used in post-op pain management, frozen shoulder, scar tissue mobilization, muscle strain, muscle imbalance, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve entrapment, plantar fasciitis, and back and neck pain.

02451 acupuncture is based on an ancient, complex Chinese diagnostic and healing system which had its beginnings thousands of years ago. Specialized, thin needles are painlessly inserted in a specific pattern along energy pathways called meridians. The needles are left in place for 30-45 minutes and function to release energy blockages believed to cause disease. As an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture is used to treat many illnesses, reduce the side effects of drug withdrawal, and maintain optimum energy levels. Needles are placed in specific acupuncture points called ‘tsubos’ along the 12 meridian lines to release ‘qi’ energy and reduce the stagnation which results in disease. Our patients find the treatments to be incredibly relaxing and effective in reducing musculoskeletal pain.

At the Boston Sports and Shoulder Center, our mission is to provide our patients with the highest quality and top-of-the-line orthopedic care. We are dedicated to promoting life-enhancing care to our patients required for healthy living and healthy aging. Our team of board-certified orthopedic surgeons is committed to providing exceptional, compassionate care to help patients recover from a broad range of injuries. We specialize in treating injuries to the ankle, bicep, elbow, foot, hamstring, hand, Boston hip surgery, knee, quadriceps, shoulder and wrist. As an innovative part of our care, we offer stem cell, platelet-rich plasma and ultrasound-guided injections in our office. We pride ourselves in offering many complementary health care modalities including 02451 acupuncture, Chinese massage therapy (Tui Na), cupping, and cold laser therapy.

If you are hobbling around due to a hip condition, our team of Brookline hip surgeons has the right course of treatment for you. Based upon the condition of your hip joint, you and one of our specialists have several treatment options from which to choose. An osteotomy is a procedure where either the head of the thigh bone or the socket is cut and realigned to take pressure off of the hip joint. This procedure is used only rarely to treat osteoarthritis of the hip. In hip resurfacing, the damaged bone and cartilage in the acetabulum (hip socket) is removed and replaced with a metal shell. The head of the femur, however, is not removed, but instead capped with a smooth metal covering. For total hip replacement, your doctor will remove both the damaged acetabulum and femoral head, and then position new metal, plastic or ceramic joint surfaces to restore full mobility to your hip.

When it comes to getting the right Brookline hip surgeon, trust our consortium of expert orthopedists. This experienced orthopedic office leads the way in innovative orthopedic care. Here at the Boston Sports and Shoulder Center, our mission is to provide our valued patients with the highest quality and top-of-the-line orthopedic care. We are dedicated to promoting life-enhancing care to our patients required for healthy living and healthy aging. Our team of board-certified orthopedic surgeons is committed to providing exceptional, compassionate care to help patients recover from a broad range of injuries. We specialize in treating injuries to the ankle, bicep, elbow, foot, a pulled hamstring in Brookline, hand, hip, knee, quadriceps, shoulder and wrist. We pride ourselves in offering many complimentary health care modalities including expert muscle and skeletal therapy including a licensed acupuncturist, Chinese massage therapy and cupping, and cold laser therapy.

The hamstrings are the three muscles in the back of the thigh that allow you to extend your leg straight behind your body and to bend your knee. When any one of these muscles stretches beyond its limit during physical activity, injury can result. Pulled hamstrings in Brookline can be caused by many risk factors. The most obvious cause is a sports injury. Sports that require sprinting or running, or other activities such as dancing that might require extreme stretching, make a hamstring injury more likely. In addition, once you’ve had one hamstring injury, you’re more likely to have another one, especially if you try to resume all your activities at pre-injury levels of intensity before your muscles have time to heal and rebuild strength. Another cause is poor flexibility and possibly muscle imbalance.

You might hear a ‘pop’ when the hamstring tears and it can be quite painful. In many instances, rest can treat a minor tear. But when walking is difficult, it is importance to get the proper treatment for a pulled hamstring in Brookline as quickly as possible. The initial goal of treatment is to reduce pain and swelling. To accomplish this, your doctor may recommend that you take a break from strenuous activities to allow the injury to heal. Using a cane avoids you from putting your full weight on your injured leg which gives it a chance to heal. Ice the area or wrap it up with a compression bandage. Elevate the leg to reduce swelling and take an over the counter anti-inflammatory. Physical therapy exercises may be prescribed for the hamstring pull. The doctor may give you an injection at the site to reduce inflammation and address the pain. In extreme cases, when the muscle has pulled free from where it’s connected to your pelvis or shinbone or severe tears, our skilled orthopedic surgeons can reattach it.

One reason for shoulder pain is damage to the rotator cuff. The rotator cuff is a group of tendons and four muscles that connect the upper arm bone, the humerus, to the shoulder blade. Their function is to stabilize the shoulder by keeping it within the socket and help to lift and rotate the arm. When a rotator cuff tear occurs, there can be a lot of pain and/or limited motion. Damage to the rotator cuff is a common source of pain and disability in adults. After a thorough examination, your shoulder doctor in Brookline will recommend treatments for shoulder pain based upon the cause of your injury. These may include tears, strains, dislocation, arthritis, tendinitis, or bursitis. In the case of a torn rotator cuff, one or more of the rotator cuff tendons are no longer fully attached to the head of the humerus. A rotator cuff tear can happen as a result of a single traumatic event or can develop gradually as a due to repeated micro-traumas. An acute tear occurs abruptly as the result of a fall, lifting a heavy object with a jerking motion, or along with other injuries sustained in an accident such as a broken collarbone and dislocated shoulder and are typically accompanied by immediate and intense pain. Most rotator cuff tears fall into the category of degenerative tears. These are a result of overuse and repeated rotator cuff injury due to straining or irritating the tendons. While degenerative changes to the rotator cuff occurs naturally with age, some occupations and hobbies that involve repetitive stress put one at greater risk for rotator cuff tears.
